Area D is located in the northern portion of Lakehurst and consists of Site LF031, the Former Sanitary Landfill and the surrounding area to the northeast towards the northern boundary.  The Former Sanitary Landfill received trash from approximately 1960 until 1980 when it was closed and capped.  Low levels of volatile organic compounds have been detected in the groundwater from the disposal of solvents, paint thinner, hydraulic fluid, and similar waste.
